Text Messaging and The Music Industry
Posted by: Grayson Brulte
Text messaging is the fastest growing communications medium on the planet according to Hip Cricket. 95% of all cell phones are text enabled and more than 39% of adults aged over 35 send and receive text messages. A broader market than teens*, the median age of those that text is 38. Now knowing these stats, will the Music Industry understand that this technology is here and it’s real?
There is so much that you can do with SMS campaigns and the profit margins are through the roof. Sign up with a partner and collect a 50% profit on each text message sent to your service.
Offer the consumer things they want, such as:
• Exclusive news on their favorite bands and artists.
• Ability to purchase tickets and merchandise.
• Interactive contests with prizes.
• MP3 ring tone downloads.
• DRM Free MP3 downloads for media enabled phones.
• Interaction. - Just listen to the consumer and everyone wins.
Text messaging is the future, just look at Asia. They are leading the way and we must look and learn from them. The US market is years behind the world in terms of mobile technology. Knowing this fact, why not hire consultants to scour the world, network and build relationships with the key players in the mobile field?
The consultants would be able to report back to the company on new technologies and implement them into the structure of their companies back home in the states. The record business is dead and the old school suites have to grow up and get out and make a difference.
Step 1, open your eyes and realize we now live in a Global Economy.

Grayson’s smart and forward thinking. If you don’t listen to him then you are a dinosaur. Technology is whizzing by us and embracing it only creates a win-win. As Artists, we need to compose, record and perform music and our fans need to have this music in their lives. Having immediate music delivery platforms is a dream for both of us.
I hope other Artists are embracing their fans through technology…and not suing them. As in life, the more you give, the more you receive.
