In an article posted on Games Industry, Jeff Yapp, EVP of program enterprises at MTV, stated that he believes Rock Band will be the next step forward in the evolution of music entertainment. Is he right or his he wrong? What percent of consumers play games?

“Fast forward to 2007 and MTV is set to revolutionize the music industry once again with Rock Band – an all new platform for music fans and gamers alike to interact with the music and artists they love,” he said.

MTV did a lot, but when Don Ienner came knocking and demanded you pay for the videos you play your model changed. You shifted to reality TV. Gamers do not make up the majority of the consumer base, however they are a great consumer and purchase a lot of music. It’s a step in the right direction, but you are WRONG to say that this will revolutionize the music industry. It’s a step in the right direction, no more no less.
