IFPI Digital Music Report 2007

IFPI has published their annual Digital Music Report for 2007. It’s a great report on digital music and the emerging business models. After reading the report it looks like we are going to start to see major growth in the area of mobile music. As well as the labels finally listening to the consumers as they admitted he consumer is going to shape the future of recordered music. The report covers the following areas and more:

* Digital music sales estimated to double to around US$2 billion in 2006
* Single track downloads estimated up 89% at 795 million
* Available tracks double to four million, via 500 online services in over 40 countries worldwide
* Portable music players help drive digital music consumption
* New revenue streams and business models emerge
* Lawsuits impact illegal file-sharing, but “gatekeeper” ISPs must act to curb digital piracy
